Tamara is twelve years old and lives in a secluded area of Southern Chile, in a seemingly idyllic house full of love and compassion. But she and the people around her are completely controlled by Miguel, the leader of a religious cult. Miguel chooses Tamara to be the future mother of his son, who according to him will be the salvation of the entire closed community. At first Tamara is thrilled about this honor, but she slowly starts to have doubts about the whole “sacred mission” and worries about getting her first period. She also begins to feel attracted to one of her new classmates, which awakens a sudden, violent rebellion against her destiny. Tamara decides she can’t wait any longer and takes matters into her own hands, plotting her revenge for the many years of lies and subordination. Director Marialy Rivas has concocted a dark fairy-tale about a very unusual childhood, defined by the toxic religious sect Tamara belongs to. “Princesita” describes how revenge can sometimes be the only way to escape from oppression.
